Wizards

January 5th, 20080 Commentsanimation, fun stuff

Last night I finally got to watch my new copy of Ralph Bakshi’s Wizards. I’ve been wanting to see it since reading about it in one of my animation history books when I was oh, about 15 years old.

Bakshi doesn’t typically have great animation but I like the films for the conceptual value. I was really enamored with the weird overlays and rotoscoping. The background art outshone the animation, music, and dialog by leaps and bounds.

Story was pretty boss too; I enjoy stories of the post-apocalypse that don’t involve cyberpunks fighting the machine. The soundtrack was filled with odd “bow chicka wow” guitars that kinda set me off, but it added a weird quirk to the whole thing. I imagine if it had a heavy metal track I would’ve been completely starry-eyed just because of the part of me deep down that loves shitty animation paired with a sweet guitar solos. Speaking of which, where’s my copy of Heavy Metal anyway?

Epicycloid-A-Day

Hooray! It’s back up!

Epicycloid-A-Day, where you can get your curvaceous fix. I swear I’m keeping up with it this time around.

The biggest problem I keep running into is album management. Most automated albums don’t allow for sub-albums, which is a HUGE feature I need. Incidentally, it’s what keeps me from creating other online classification galleries for massive collections of photos and drawings. I want to be able to control how the user navigates, tag/classify photos and have an infinite number of subdivisions available. Also I should not have to have passed a college-level computer science class to put it together. Anything like that exist out there?
