Shaving Scuttle

Yay! Now I can start posting what I’ve made for people’s gifts!

My husband is now the proud owner of an “old-timey” shaving kit complete with a scuttle and soap dish crafted by yours truly. Most shaving scuttles I’ve seen are one piece, but I made mine two pieces so that I could clean out the second chamber. He already tried it out, and loved the shave he got. I’m so pleased.

I should get around to taking a photo of the glaze I used: Mayco’s “Alligator” looks great! It’s very matte but has flecks of shiny crystal here and there.

No, Olivia, you can’t throw pots you have to paint a football stadium.

I had to look up what a field looks like. :[

Rush

I can’t clearly recall everything that happened in October and November, but I can recollect that there wasn’t nearly enough pottery!

This kiln load kicks off the beginning of the holiday rush. Maybe I should just have our Solstice Party in the garage while the kiln is going? It’s warmer than the house…

Well, hey! This actually looks like something. I’ve been practicing trying to throw this type or form; I kept getting flared-at-the-top forms.

It’s humid out, so let’s hope I don’t mess ‘em up with trimming and handles tomorrow.

Trapped on the sofa with a cold, I have time to try and get my sub-par drawing skills upped while I watch cop shows. Have some Jerry Orbach.

Cop shows are done, time for some M*A*S*H. Hot Lips yells a lot.

Commercials? I love the Cheesy Skillet Blacksmith almost as much as the Berries and Cream guy.

Organization!

I got fed up with all the glaze chip samples I have floating around, so it’s time to organize!

1) clay medallion with straw hole; smooth on one side, textured on the other

2) custom office supply stamps

3) stamp the smooth side with the glaze id number

4) repeat for as many times as you have glaze types

For the time being I only use one type of clay; this may prove to be a frightening endeavor when I decide to branch out!
